Introduction

From mid 2010 - 2012 the Agri-ProFocus Gender in Value Chains learning has worked on systematizing experiences and learning to date on gender in value chains through a writeshop process, to result in a GVC book.

KIR/IIRR/Agri-ProFocus, Challenging Chains to Change  - Gender Equity in Agricultural Value Chain Development, 2012

The aim was to provide a practical resource for NGOs, businesses (including farmer cooperatives) and other organizations to improve their work in value chain development by capturing: (i) economic and social justice arguments; (ii) an analytical framework; (iii) effective strategies; (iv) practical examples; (v) tools and essential resources. Funding and human resources were secured from Cordaid, ICCO, HIVOS, Oxfam Novib, IIRR and KIT.

Outputs

• Editing process and book publication - 1st semester 2012
• Writeshop  (Nairobi, November 2010) with 25 case holders and international experts
• Case selection process (September 2010) to pre-structure the writeshop
• Call for cases (July - August 2010) delivered 105 case abstracts
• Pre-meeting with international experts (June 2010) providing critical input at conceptual level
